Meet Paynted, a wonderful 2016, 16 1/2 hand Thoroughbred gelding who’s looking for a new chapter in his life. While he’s had a successful racing career with 24 starts, including six wins (two just this year!), he’s ready to transition to a new career. At seven years young, he’s all set for a fresh start in a loving forever home as a sport horse.

This handsome fella is a true gem, both in his looks and behavior. He’s a stunning mover, and his manners on the ground are top-notch. Whether you’re into dressage, eventing, or hunter disciplines, he’s up for the challenge. He’s a breeze to handle for the blacksmith, while trailering, and with the vet. With his impressive presence and outstanding movement, he’s bound to catch everyone’s eye in the show ring.

Paynted has some incredible breeding in him. His maternal grandfather is Tiznow and his paternal grandmother, Tizso, is a full sister to Tiznow. Tiznow’s breeding goes back to Relaunch and Seattle Slew. Paynted’s sire is Paynter whose sire is Awesome Again. Side note: Paynter (Paynted’s sire) was second in the Awesome Again Stakes (named for Paynter’s sire). Paynted is extremely well bred and the fact that he has raced so long tells you he has good genes. See Paynted’s pedigree to see his remarkable family. Paynted’s lineage is truly remarkable. His family tree boasts names like Tiznow, Relaunch, and Seattle Slew, making for some incredible breeding.

While Paynted is a light cribber, his habit is fully under control with a strap, which his owner will provide. Importantly, he doesn’t crib when he’s turned out, and many horses tend to leave such habits behind when leaving the racing scene. Additionally, he has old and well-set osselets that won’t impact his future pursuits. He’s an easy keeper and has enjoyed time with other horses during breaks from racing. He is believed sound for any career.

This incredible horse has so much potential, and despite his minor quirks, he’s an ideal candidate for someone willing to look beyond them. In fact, he could be a fantastic candidate for next year’s Retired Racehorse Project. With his rich history and promising future, Paynted is ready to become a cherished companion in his next adventure.

Please call for pricing. The price can go up or down depending on the owner. We always check with the owner when someone is a serious buyer. Many times the price goes down to a really good home. We do not own these horses so we cannot control the pricing. We will not sell a horse to just anyone with the money. We carefully select the horses we sell and we work hard to make a perfect match. If you don’t call, we cannot help you. We are not a rescue and our horses are not ‘rescue priced’. Most horses are between $2,500 and $5,500 – some higher and some lower. Call and we can talk more about our horses and let us help you find the perfect match. We take the gamble out of getting a Thoroughbred off-the-track. Learn more about how our Track Prospect Horses are priced on the main Bits & Bytes Farm website.

Frequently Asked Questions About Buying Our Thoroughbreds

Prices are not published because the price can go up or down depending on how the horse is racing. Most horses average $3500 but can be as low as $1,000 or up to $6,000. We will share the prices when you call. If the horse you call about is not in your budget, we may be able to recommend another horse that is.

Jockey Club names are not always listed on the site as the sellers do not want calls from people who have not been screened by us for having the skills to help these horses into new careers. Most horses come with their Jockey Club papers and we will be happy to provide links to their race records and pedigrees when you make the decision to move forward with a purchase. Horses’ whose names are in quotes are not the actual name of the horse. That is the nickname we have listed the horse by.

When we say this is a Prospect Horse, that means the horse is not at our farm in the Atlanta area. Prospect horses are still at the track or owner or trainer’s farm. We can tell you where the horse is when you call. Thoroughbreds move from track to track and to the farm and back. We cannot keep this website current with so many horses listed and all moving around. That is why we don’t always post the current location. We are happy to share where the horse is when you call. We may have to make a phone call to find out where the horse is ourselves, but we are happy to share the info with you…if you call.

READ these pages and then CALL . . . Between 9 AM-9 PM East Coast time.  Before you call, you can save us all a lot of time by reading the information on these pages on our Bits & Bytes Farm Web site.

Please read our Pricing Information and Buying a Track Prospect Horse pages BEFORE calling! There are several more pages under the Buying Our Horses button. Prospect Horses at the Track will only be sold to buyers with the skills and support to make it a successful transition. Prospect Horses are NOT at our farm. They are at the track or their owners’ farms. We do not sell horses for racing.

CALL if you are excited about one of the horses, but PLEASE READ the links above. We will not sell a horse if it is not a good match – no matter how much money you have. Are you a match? CALL and we can see.

Our Phone: 770-704-6595 between 9AM and 9PM East Coast time! We are located in the Atlanta, GA area.

If you see a horse you like:

Don’t wait to see if he is there tomorrow.
Don’t wonder how much he is – CALL!
Don’t wait to see what your friends say – CALL!

We are not going to talk you into buying a horse! More likely we will ask you to tell us about yourself and your goals. Then, we will help you find the right match or tell you to wait for other horses because none of the current horses are a match.

Prices change based on what price the owner has set. We add a small markup for our services. Prices can go up or down based on how the horse is racing or how quickly the owner wants the horse sold. Most Prospect horses are priced under $5000 with the average being around $3500. Big sound geldings, grey horses and tall horses usually cost more — but not always. Small mares are your best bet if you are price sensitive.
